Master of Occupational Therapy (MOT): Your Path Starts In Occupational Science

Interactive online coursework and 18 on-campus weekend learning experiences allow you the flexibility to continue your home, work, and community roles while earning your Master of Occupational Therapy degree. With personalized guidance from expert faculty, you鈥檒l gain hands-on skills through classroom instruction, simulation labs and fieldwork to prepare for diverse careers in healthcare and community settings.

The MOT program provides knowledge and skills to become an entry-level licensed occupational therapist who utilizes evidence, applies critical thinking, fosters the intraprofessional team, and values service to others for delivery of occupation-based and client-centered care.

Start your path in MOT by applying to Occupational Science (OS) first鈥攁 fully online, OT-aligned prerequisite foundation offered through 人兽性交鈥檚 Adult Program. After OS, you are eligible to apply to the MOT Program. 

No matter which MOT pathway you choose鈥Alternative or OTA-to-MOT Bridge鈥攃ompleted prerequisites help ensure you鈥檙e ready for 人兽性交 University鈥檚 rigorous Master of Occupational Therapy (MOT) curriculum (online coursework, labs, and fieldwork).

MOT PATHWAYS

OTA 鈫 MOT Bridge Pathway

For licensed occupational therapy assistants (OTAs) ready to advance to the occupational therapist role. 

Minimum requirements:

  • Credentialed OTA: NBCOT certification and current state licensure in good standing
  • Prerequisite courses completed with 鈥淐鈥 or better (verified by transcripts)
    • Basic prerequisite courses:
      • Abnormal Psychology (3) 
      • Anatomy & Physiology (6) 
      • Human Development (2) 
      • Human Disease (2) 
      • Statistics (3) 
    • Occupational Science prerequisites:
      • OCSC 351 Occupational Science (3) 
      • OCSC 453 Elder Cognitive Health & Wellness (3) 
      • OCSC 455 Sensory Function Across the Lifespan (3) 
      • PSYC 419 Cognitive Neuroscience Prep Course (1)  
  • Minimum 90 semester hours of undergraduate coursework 
  • Work experience: 1,500 hours as an OTA within the most recent 60 months
  • GPA expectation: minimum 3.0 (OTA education + prerequisite coursework)

ALTERNATIVE PATHWAY

For individuals with a bachelor鈥檚 degree in a related/health-related field who want a structured route into 人兽性交鈥檚 MOT program. 

Minimum requirements:

  • Bachelor鈥檚 degree in a related/health-related field 
  • Prerequisite courses completed with 鈥淐鈥 or better (verified by transcripts) 
    • Basic prerequisite courses:
      • Abnormal Psychology (3) 
      • Anatomy & Physiology (6)

      • Statistics (3) 
    • Occupational Science prerequisites:
      • OCSC 351 Occupational Science (3)

  • Required virtual observation: completion of the 6-module virtual observation experiences(reflection form uploaded with application) 
  • GPA expectation: minimum 3.0 (bachelor鈥檚 degree + prerequisite coursework)

Occupational therapy is a rewarding career full of opportunities to impact people鈥檚 lives. As the demand grows for rehabilitation, mental health support and disability services, so does the need for skilled occupational therapists to help individuals regain independence, participate in meaningful activities, and improve overall well-being.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), employment for occupational therapists is projected to grow 11% over the next decade, more than double the average growth rate for all occupations. The BLS also reports strong salary potential for OTs, with a median annual salary of $96,370 and the top 10% earning more than $129,620.
