New Concord, home to Խ University, is ranked No. 24 in a nationwide survey to determine the “collegiest” college town.

The analyzed U.S. Census data on urban areas with the largest share of college students. Urban areas follow population-density patterns, not typical town borders or municipal boundaries. According to Post staff writer Andrew Van Dam, the classic college town is built around the school at its heart.

“Having Խ University in the Village of New Concord is part of who we are,” said New Concord Mayor Jennifer Lyle. “The college and town were founded almost simultaneously; we have grown and evolved together.”

The data shows that the college-student share of the population is 45.1 percent based on a Village population of 2,836.

“We are proud to be part of the New Concord community and to contribute to the educational and economic well-being of the Appalachian region,” said Խ University President Susan S. Hasseler.
