ART
Professor of Art Yan Sun鈥檚 oil painting 鈥淧eaceful Harbor鈥 has been juried into the 30th National Juried Exhibition of Oil Painters of America (OPA). The selective exhibition includes 150 works created by artists from the United States, Canada, and Mexico, and will be hosted by the California Center for the Arts, Escondido Museum (Escondido, CA), from April 7 through May 16, 2021.
COMMUNICATION, MEDIA, AND THEATRE
Assistant Professor of Communication Shawn Starcher received a 鈥淭op Four Paper Award鈥 from the Central States Communication Association 鈥 Interpersonal and Family Communication Interest Group, for his paper entitled 鈥淥penness of Parental Disclosures about Depression with Children: Examining the Impact of Family Privacy Management and Stigma.鈥
Dr. Starcher also recently presented on a Central States Communication Association panel entitled 鈥淟ooking for Inspiration: COVID, the Communication Classroom, and Pedagogy.鈥
HISTORY
Karen Dunak, Associate Professor and Chair of History, was interviewed by Jade Yan for the Chicago Reporter article
Dr. Dunak鈥檚 co-authored article with Shannon Smith, 鈥溾榃e Made the Best Out of a Situation That Was Bad鈥: School Closings in Modern American Education,鈥 was published in The American Historian, December 2020 issue.
POLITICAL SCIENCE
Associate Professor of Political Science Richard Arnold recently published an article 鈥淣ationalism and Sport: A Review of the Field鈥 in Nationalities Papers.
Dr. Arnold was also selected to participate in the virtual Summer Research Laboratory at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign to study Cossack mobilization in Ukraine and Russia. The program is supported by the U.S. Department of State and comes with a $1000 grant.
SOCIOLOGY
A book co-authored by Assistant Professor of Sociology Michelle Oyakawa was released in March 2021 by the University of Chicago Press: Prisms of the People, Power and Organizing in 21st Century America, by Hahrie Han, Elizabeth McKenna, and Michelle Oyakawa.
