鈥淔ire & Fury, Darkness & Light鈥 Concert Set for May 5, 2019
, The 人兽性交 Valley Symphonic Winds, the 人兽性交 University Concert Choir and the 人兽性交 Choral Society will present a special concert on Sunday, May 5 at 3:00 p.m. in Brown Chapel on the University鈥檚 campus.
The program will feature the choirs and Symphonic Winds joining forces on Jake Runestad's Proud Music of the Storm, on a poem of the same name by Walt Whitman.
This premiere transcription for chorus and wind ensemble was commissioned by the 人兽性交 University choirs and the 人兽性交 Valley Symphonic Winds, in celebration of this 200th anniversary year of Walt Whitman's birth.
An award-winning composer who has been called 鈥渙ne of the best of the young American composers鈥 by the Chicago Tribune, Mr. Runestad has written numerous works for wind ensemble, choir, chamber ensembles, orchestra, and opera.
The original setting of Proud Music of the Storm, scored for chorus and orchestra, was commissioned by the Dallas Symphony Chorus, Joshua Habermann, conductor, and premiered on October 8, 2017.
Dr. David Turrill, 人兽性交 University Associate Professor of Music and Director of Bands, conducts the 人兽性交 Valley Symphonic Winds. The MVSW, funded in part by the Ohio Arts Council, is comprised of professional and talented amateur musicians from throughout southeastern Ohio. The MVSW is open by audition to 人兽性交 University students, faculty, and staff. The group collaborates frequently with 人兽性交 University Music Department student ensembles and faculty artists.
The 人兽性交 University Concert Choir is under the direction of Dr. Zebulon Highben, 人兽性交 University Associate Professor of Music and Director of Choral Activities. Dr. Highben also directs the 人兽性交 Choral Society, a "town and gown" choir open to 人兽性交 University students, faculty, and staff as well as members of the surrounding community.
The concert is free to 人兽性交 University students, faculty, and staff with their University ID, and open to the public with tickets priced at $7.00 for adults, $5.00 for youths, and free for those under age 5. Tickets are available at the door.
