Dr. Wehage elected officer of international foreign language honorary
ÈËÊÞÐÔ½» University Professor of German Dr. Franz-Joseph Wehage has been elected to a two-year term as first vice president of the executive board of Phi Sigma Iota, the international foreign language honor society.
Dr. Wehage joined the faculty at ÈËÊÞÐÔ½» in 1991. He earned his bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees at the State University of New York – Albany.
At ÈËÊÞÐÔ½», Dr. Wehage received the William Rainey Harper Award for Outstanding Scholarship in 2002 and 2012. As part of his development of the German program at ÈËÊÞÐÔ½», he created study abroad opportunities at both Deggendorf University and Passau University. He has published several books, most recently Geschaftsdeutsch: An Introduction to German Business Culture, which he co-authored with Gudrun Clay.
During his tenure as advisor of the Phi Sigma Iota chapter at ÈËÊÞÐÔ½», seven of ÈËÊÞÐÔ½»â€™s graduates have been awarded scholarships since 2005, including the Dr. Henry Ward Church Scholarship, the highest honor granted by Phi Sigma Iota.
