CRIMINAL JUSTICE

Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice Samantha Bennett co-authored the book (Rowman & Littlefield, 2023). Using the commonwealth of Pennsylvania as a case-study, with Ohio and Minnesota as controls, the book examines how Balanced and Restorative Justice (BARJ) legislation 鈥渢rickles down鈥 to the law enforcement level through Pennsylvania鈥檚 Juvenile Justice System Enhancement Strategy and the Juvenile Justice Act. This legislation is a direct application of the BARJ model to law enforcement, essentially directing police discretion in the direction of informal dispositions.

EDUCATION

Director of the Educator Preparation Program Tim Slekar and Associate Professor of Education Keith Eberly attended the 2023 Education Deans for Justice and Equity conference at the University of San Diego. They presented on 人兽性交 University's teacher apprenticeship partnership with the 人兽性交 and Ohio Valley Educational Service Centers. 

ENGLISH

Visiting Assistant Professor of English Kim Shegog鈥檚 collection of short stories (Clemson University Press, 2022) was named a 2023 Eric Hoffer Book Award Finalist.

HISTORY

Professor of History and Miriam G. Schwartz Faculty Scholar Laura Hilton received a $7,200 grant from the Ohio Holocaust and Genocide Memorial and Education Commission, in conjunction with the Ohio Humanities Council. The grant will fund the development of workshops for grades 7-12 Social Studies and Language Arts instructors on teaching the Holocaust, along with a talk by a nationally-recognized scholar on the Holocaust during the Fall 2023 semester. History major and Adolescent Young Adult/Social Studies licensure student Christopher Brison 鈥25 will be working with Dr. Hilton on developing the grades 7-12 curriculum and lesson plans.

MATHEMATICS

Associate Professor of Mathematics Matt Davis was awarded a 2023 Merten M. Hasse Prize from the Mathematical Association of America for his co-authorship of 鈥淏eing Rational 人兽性交 Algebraic Numbers,鈥 published in the College Mathematics Journal.

POLITICAL SCIENCE

Associate Professor of Political Science Richard Arnold presented a talk online to the University of Wroclaw (Poland) undergraduate conference 鈥淎ggressive Foreign Policy of the Russian Federation: Regional and Global Dimensions of Threats and Challenges.鈥 His talk focused on 鈥淭he Paramilitarization of Russia 鈥 An Enduring Threat to the Global Order.鈥 He also gave an invited interview to the show 鈥24,鈥 the leading daily news and current affairs show across the Persian-speaking region and among the Persian-speaking diaspora around the world.
