What happens at the first appointment?

Your first visit is a chance for us to get to know you. We'll talk through your concerns and goals, review your mental health history, and think together about what kind of support would be most helpful.

Is there a cost?

No — counseling services are completely free of charge for enrolled undergraduate students.

Are virtual appointments available?

Yes! Virtual sessions are available by request through DoxyMe, a HIPAA-approved telehealth platform.

What to Expect

What do people talk about in counseling?

Students come to us with all kinds of concerns. Common topics include:

  • Anxiety, depression, and stress
  • Academic pressure and burnout
  • Relationship and family concerns
  • Homesickness and transitions
  • Identity exploration
  • Grief, loss, and trauma
  • Crisis situations

You don't need to be in crisis to reach out. If something's on your mind, we're here.

Is counseling confidential?

Yes. Everything you share with your counselor stays private. We do not share information with your professors, parents, roommates, or other campus offices without your written permission. The only exceptions are situations involving:

  • Immediate risk of harm to yourself or others
  • Reported abuse or neglect of a minor, vulnerable person, or animal
  • Court orders or legal requirements
What if my counselor doesn't feel like the right fit?

That's completely okay. The therapeutic relationship matters. You're welcome to switch to another counselor on our team at any time; no explanation is needed. We can also assist with an off-campus referral if that feels like a better fit (off-campus services are at the student's expense).
