Our Services

Counseling Services offers a welcoming, confidential space where 人兽性交 students can get support for their mental, emotional, and personal well鈥慴eing. We provide a wide range of services tailored to each student鈥檚 individual needs.

Services

Counseling

Single Session Therapy (SST) 

A one-time, solution-focused appointment designed to help you address your most immediate concern. Common topics include: 

  • Life transitions 
  • Breakups or relationship concerns 
  • Decision-making 
  • Stress or anxiety 
  • Time management 
  • Recent conflicts 

Short-Term Counseling 

Brief Therapy (4鈥8 Sessions) that is focused, skill-based support for personal growth and symptom reduction. Common concerns: 

  • Anxiety, stress, and worry 
  • Depression 
  • Perfectionism 
  • Social anxiety and loneliness 
  • Emotional regulation difficulties 
  • Relationship concerns 
  • Disordered eating patterns 
  • Chronic health-related stress 

Long-Term Counseling 

For complex or ongoing concerns (limited availability)

  • Weekly, multi-semester support 
  • Focus on deeper, long-term growth and healing 
  • Builds coping skills and insight over time 

人兽性交 University Counseling Center utilizes a brief, short-term, goal-directed model of treatment for individual counseling. If a student鈥檚 concerns or situation requires longer-term therapy, referrals will be provided for off-campus resources. 

When a student鈥檚 needs fall outside 人兽性交 University Counseling staff鈥檚 scope of practice and cannot be met by our services at 人兽性交 University鈥檚 Counseling Center, we will work with the student to make a referral to another resource.

Training and Presentations

Question Persuade Refer (QPR) 

鈥淪uicide prevention is everybody鈥檚 business.鈥  Leah and Lisa are both QPR trainers and are available to teach the 60 minute QPR training to students, faculty, and staff groups. QPR is the most widely taught gatekeeper training in the world, QPR is designed to help any and everyone learn how to recognize the warning signs of suicide, offer hope, and help save lives.   

You Can Help a Student (JED Foundation) 

Leah and Lisa are both JED certified trainers for this 60-minute interactive session designed to equip faculty, staff, and administrators with the knowledge and tools to recognize when a student may be struggling, initiate supportive conversations, and connect students to appropriate resources.  

Additional Services

Zen Den and Mini Zen

A space for students to help manage their mental health outside of formal counseling appointments. Includes comfortable seating and lighting, massage chair, headphones, yoga mats, sand tray, and other stress relieving items to enjoy. The Zen Den is connected to the counseling suite, but doors are closed to maintain confidentiality for students seeking counseling.

Mini Zen: a smaller space similar to the Zen Den and located in the coaches' hallway of the John Glenn Gym.

Wellness Boxes

Wellness Boxes contain mental health and stress relief activities for students to use, located in different areas across campus. These areas include CEI Lounge, Library, Commuter Student Lounge, Student Accessibility Services, and Student Life as well as in the dorms, Kelly/Patton, Mem/Moore, Thomas, Finney and Stadium Heights.

QR codes are in the box for mindfulness exercises and information about Counseling Services.

Massage Chairs

Counseling has implemented 4 massage chairs around campus in the following areas:  Library, Zen Den, Commuter Lounge and the Chess Center (2nd floor).

Mini Light Therapy Boxes

Available to check out in person by going to the counseling services office during regular business hours or by emailing counselingservices@muskingum.edu. Light boxes are available to be checked out for the semester and taken to your own personal space. Light boxes are helpful during the winter months for seasonal depression and sleeping disorders. 

Meditation Tools

Check out a breathing buddha, sloth, or pebble to enhance your meditation practice.  These can be checked out from the Library front desk during regular hours.
